An Evening with Jay Therrell
On June 30 the Eastern Europe Regional Chapter will host an evening conversation with the newly elected president of the Wesleyan Covenant Association Rev. Jay Therrell. The Zoom meeting will start at 7 pm Bulgarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, and Estonian time (6 pm Slovak, Croatian and Norwegian time).
Jay will speak about the opportunities of the European United Methodists if they want to leave the United Methodist Church.
Jay Therrell was an ordained Global Methodist pastor and leader of the Wesleyan Covenant Association – Florida. Formerly, Jay served several United Methodist Churches in Florida including First Methodist Churches of Kissimmee, Ormond Beach, and Cape Coral. He has also served as the North East District Superintendent for four years serving the greater Jacksonville area.
Before becoming a pastor, Jay practiced estate planning and tax law for a large law firm in the Orlando area. He is still a member of the Florida Bar. He has also served as a congressional aide in the 105th Congress for former Congressman and Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum. Jay’s undergraduate degrees are in political science and accounting from Presbyterian College. His law degree is from the University of Florida. Go Gators! He received his master of divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary. Jay is also a Hansard Scholar, studying British politics and public policy at the London School of Economics while serving as an aide to the Honourable Lady Olga Maitland, a former member of the British House of Commons.
Jay was appointed a guest chaplain to the U.S. House of Representatives by former Congressman Connie Mack. During his time in Cape Coral, Jay helped to found and served on the Board of Directors for the Samaritan Health and Wellness Center, Christian primary care and behavioral health clinic for the uninsured and underinsured. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Presbyterian College Alumni Association and was student body president on the Florida-Dunnam Campus of Asbury Seminary.
Jay is married and has one son. In his spare time, he likes to travel, cook, and be an avid fan of all things Star Wars and the University of Florida!
